THE SILVER GRANADE BEARS THE W FOR THE PRINCE OF ORANGE, FOUGHT ALONGSIDE THE WELLINGTON AND INJURED AT WATERLOO. THIS SWORD BELONGED TO ONE OF HIS BODYGUARDS AND WAS DEFENETELY USED AT WATERLOO. GREAT HISTORICAL SWORD. WITH THE SWORD A TOKEN OF THE pRINCE OF ORANGE FROM 1815 STRUCK FOR HIS BRAVERY WILL BE INCLUDED WITH THE SWORD.

DEPICTED ON THIS MEDAL IS KING WILLIAM II OF THE NETHERLANDS WHEN HE WAS CROWN PRINCE OF ORANGE. IN 1815 WILLIAM'S FATHER (WILLIAM I) PROCLAIMED HIMSELF KING OF THE NETHERLANDS, AFTER NAPOLEON ESCAPED FROM ELBA, AND WILLIAM WAS CROWN PRINCE FROM THAT TIME UNTIL HE BECAME KING IN 1840.
AFTER THE FRENCH INVASION OF 1797, AND SUBSEQUENT ANNEXATION OF THE NETHERLANDS BY THE FRENCH EMPIRE, BOTH FATHER (WILLIAM I) AND SON (WILLIAM II) WENT INTO EXILE TO FIGHT AGAINST FRANCE.
WILLIAM ENTERED THE BRITISH ARMY IN 1811. HE SERVED AS AN AIDE-DE-CAMP TO THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON AND FOUGHT THROUGH SEVERAL CAMPAIGNS IN THE PENNINSULAR WAR. HE STARTED WITH THE RANK OF LIEUTENANT COLONEL, AND WAS MADE A COLONEL THAT SAME YEAR. IN 1812 HE WAS AIDE-DE-CAMP TO THE PRINCE REGENT, AND IN 1813 WAS PROMOTED TO MAJOR GENERAL. HE WAS GOOD NATURED AND SHOWED GREAT COURAGE, WHICH MADE HIM A POPULAR COMMANDER WITH THE BRITISH FORCES WHO NICKNAMED HIM "SLENDER BILLY". HE RETURNED TO JOIN HIS FATHER IN THE NETHERLANDS IN 1813.
